30 Day Water Fast - Running While Water Fasting

by Linda

Hi Everyone:

I am on a 30-day fast and this is Day 3. When I started water fasting 3 days ago, I weighed in at 233. After 3 days I am now weighing in at 225.

I was a bit scared last night though because I had aches in my legs and felt pretty dizzy. But today I felt better. Except I went on a 3-mile run as I normally do, 5 days per week. But I realized that I was very weak and very sick after my run.

I will have to cut down on running while I am water fasting I guess. In total from ten months ago, I have lost 100 pounds. But I am doing the fast because I have been stuck lately and was not losing anymore.

I am hoping this water fast loosens those pounds and lets me continue. Before I started the fast I went on a strictly fruit and vegetable diet for a week to get ready.

Anyway, its a bit scary doing this unsupervised so I decided to come in here and see what other people are up to.

Thanks for letting me vent...

Linda

Just listen to your body NEW

Its all about listening to your body....if you are feeling weak and your body says rest...then listen. Go write, watch a movie, etc.

When you have times of tons of energy and your body wants excerise...listen to it!

I started a juice/water fast. I was running before and will continue to....simply less miles and at a bit slower pace. When I need extra energy I have my juice before I exercise and sip on water throughout my run. Today I ran a mile, walked a minute, ran a mile, walked a minute until I reached five miles.

I didn't feel weak or anything. I was sweaty, which has to be good in releasing toxins.

My goal is to lose 42 pounds but I want to look lean. I have alot of fat so the cardio along with situps and pushups will assist in keeping things tight along the journey.

I just started fasting yesterday and need a partner for moral support.. I'm going to Zumba today. Exercising while fasting is supposed to increase weight loss so I am all for it. You just have to know your limit as an individual!

I water fasted for 12days and worked out while doing so without any problems. There were times I experienced extreme hunger and at other times felt fine. I'm getting ready to water fast again but this time for 30 days. If one has body fat then they have fuel to burn but if one is gaunt or has the proper weight to height ratio then I believe fasting could be dangerous.

Do Not Run NEW

Your on a 30 day water fast. Even if you were sitting completely still, by the end of 7 days you would exhaust all your carbohydrate, and a good deal of your body fat as fuel. If you were to run as normal your body would start eating itself, literally nutrients would be carried away from your lean muscle and bone. Unless you want to look like an anorexic rest, meditate, walk, but for your personal well being, do not run.

Always Stay In Safety

You're completely fine to jog or even run for as long as you like while fasting. Your only goal should be to monitor your body and feelings so that you know if you're in a medically dangerous state.
Probably, you can jog all day and night with no trouble, but you'll notice increases and decreases in energy that you might not have been expecting. If you are dry fasting or water fasting, it is still perfectly fine. If you have worries, do a little research, check with doctors, you should still be fine. God made the human body to do amazing things when you keep trying.
If you are really worried, pace yourself, take it as easy as you like, say your prayers and carry on. If you think you're going to be in medical distress or at risk of injuries you're fully in the right to quit
and try again later. Better you walk than finish your fast too early.
Good luck, everyone!

U CAN Do fat-burning workout as apposed to cardio building workout while fasting
by: Anonymous

It's ok to walk briskly for up to 3 hours while water fasting. I have done this many times and have felt fine- actually had more energy afterwards. Ok here's why. Your body can't convert the fat/muscle into useable energy quick enough to keep up with your needs while working out at "high intensity/ cardio workout" (which is about 153-170bpm based on your age) BUT it can keep up with a low-intensity fat-burning working out (which is roughly 120-152 bpm) I used to run all the time, but I prefer to actually walk briskly via treadmill at a high incline. I've lost 2 lbs a day doing this while fasting (im 5'2" 140lbs)

I've learned the above info by reading many online articles and a book called "Fasting the Ultimate Diet" by Allan Cott MD

Good luck!! it's 11:13 pm and I'm starting my new water fast right now!!

Don't over-anaylze it

I disagree about the no run rule. Your body can handle some exercise in moderation even when fasting. Run 1 mile, 2 miles or 3 miles whatever you can handle I can run 5 miles a day and still fast. Health nuts tend to over-analyze risks, it's only a risk if you are not properly prepared for it.

Running While Fasting
by: Anonymous

Hello Linda,

"Running"...even a light "jog" is absolutely not advised while water fasting. If you must exercise, then at the most it should be kept to a minimum...as in walking.

When water fasting, you're giving your digestive system a "break", and functioning off of what reserves your body already "owns", as in stored fat.

You need to let your body cleanse itself and detoxify, but don't push it by challenging it to function as an athlete while doing so.

I think it's great that you have this energy, but you're also unsupervised you stated, so please take it easy!
