40-Day Water Fasting: Why do I Keep Giving In to My Huner Pangs? Help with "Water Boredom"

I started my 40 day fast motivated and determined. Day 1 was really good and had no real hunger pangs at all as was day 2 and 3. Day 4 was a real struggle and I found it so hard not to give in as the hunger was unbelievable.
Day 5 was so bad and I thought of food all the time although I wasn't really hungry and by the evening I had broken the fast! The next day (day 6) I got back on track and kept on track all day and did the same for day 7.
I felt so sick on day 8 and had such a bad taste in my mouth and ended up breaking the fast in the evening! Day 9 and 10 the same, made it through the day and then at night ending up eating.
Day 11, 12 and 13 got through the days ok, felt hungry but stayed on track, day 14, 15, 16 again made it to the evening and gave in to hunger again! I feel so disappointed in myself as I really want to do this for health as well as weight loss.
The problem is not so much the hunger (although it does get bad at times) but the awful taste in my mouth and getting bored with the taste of water. Could anyone help with suggestions of how I can help with this as I know that if I didn't have such an unpleasant taste in my mouth all the time I would not desire something to take the taste away eg; food!
Also any suggestions on water boredom!!! I would appreciate any help here please. Thank you.
