Wow. Very inspiring, Big Daddy. I'm starting Day One today.
This is my third long term fast. My first fast was a very successful 8 days, which cleared up some bothersome health problems.
My second fast was for weight loss. I made it into the fifth day until I abandoned the fast because of vomiting, something I didn't experience the first time.
Anyway, it's nice to read about someone who is much farther down the road. I'm 5'9", 235 lbs, and starting to feel bad health creeping up on me.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Good for you ! by: Clare
Well done Robert. You sound extremely determined and organized.
I'm sure you'll reach your goal. I'm on day 16 of a water fast at the moment and am finding it a bit of a struggle.
ve got the dreaming about food thingy too but it does seem to be fading a bit. I totally agree with you about napping....I'm finding it essential.
How do you feel about being fasting buddies?
Maybe offer each other a bit of mutual support?

Welcome Robert ! by: Robert Dave Johnston
Hello Robert. I wanted to thank you for the truly inspiring post you have submitted, and let you know that we are here to support you all the way.
I personally am amidst an extended fast right now and understand what you said about needing to be alone to focus on introspection etc..
Being a single father as you are, I believe you are giving your little boy the most wonderful gift he could possibly wish for - a healthy dad that will be around for many years to come.
So hang in there and do not waiver one single iota from what you are doing! If you run into trouble, write and let us know what is going on. We also just put in a "Fasting Chat" room for that very purpose.
It is brand new, and it does not have much traffic, but I hope eventually people who are fasting can go in there and chat with each other and be of mutual support and motivation.
Robert, I salute you. You sound like a very special man and, again, I want you to know that we are here for you in any way that we can. Regarding my personal fast, today I am on Day 5 and plan to go as long as I possibly can.
I suffer from a liver condition that needs extended fasting every couple of years, and this month my time was up! It is never easy, especially the first few days.
But as you wait in patience and allow time to take you deeper and deeper into the fast, you will find wonders that you did not know were possible inside yourself.
The weight loss is drastic and life-changing, but the health, mental clarity, inspiration and heightened level of spirituality are also there as amazing benefits.
Do not be alarmed if in the first week or two you go through much anger, irritability and even rage. Let your emotions just pass through.
Be an observer and try not to react to what is happening outside of you. Keep your awareness on your emotions and just observe them as they pass through. That helped me a lot.
Also, it was crucial for me not to be constantly measuring days and hours. I had to shut down my mind and keep myself in the present moment as much as possible. Amazingly, doing this made me realize just how much of a slave I can be to externals!
Stay in touch and let us know how you are moving along! Godspeed to our fasting brother.
Warm Regards,
Robert Dave Johnston Fitness Through Fasting Editor/Webmaster
