Days of Awe Fast
by JG Murphy
(Skokie, IL, USA)
I began the fast on Friday night (9-10-10) and will fast for seven days until 9-17-10.
These are the days of awe on the Jewish calendar, between Rosh Hashanah (our New Year) and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement).
A time for spiritual renewal and settling up of old animosities with people, asking forgiveness, etc.
I decided to expand the Yom Kippur fast to the preceding week. I will eat the eve of Yom Kippur and the day after, with no water consumed on Yom Kippur itself.
Have been doing quite well on the fast, having been reasonably energetic and experiencing great mental clarity (as usual), but then again I am a seasoned faster, having fasted somewhat regularly since I was 15.
I wish you all luck and joy in your fasting experiences!
