I tell everyone drink plenty of water. If your body starts to dehydrate, it will try hard to hold on to (retain) fluid. You need water to flush things out of your body.

I'd say spend time really looking at what you're told to buy on tv ads and in grocery stores. Seriously consider what's in the foods. Anything with 'enriched' in it should be put back. And that seems to be everything. What you do after the fast is more important than the fast itself, I'd say. You can't detox or lose weight, only to go back to processed, artery clogging foods. That's pointless. You're just re-polluting yourself. I'm a broken record about this, but check out Chocolate, Cheese, Meat, and Sugar with an open mind at Youtube. It explains why getting off hollow foods is so hard and why we get hungry for it again and again. Grocery stores (big chains) have profit in mind, not health. Processed foods came along around 1900. It's a good idea to store for disasters and emergencies, but it's still stripped of nutrients. Check out stores like Trader Joe's or healthy alternatives. It's a different world of shopping, a less confusing atmosphere.

Don't feel bad if you have a few rough starts or you falter. Just keep at it. I tell people who have an impossible time to start by eating every other day. That way they can prove to themselves they've got a sense of control. They also won't panic knowing they'll eat the very next day. And no you won't eat twice as much the next day. When I did that, my stomach held less, so I ate even less. Then I was able to skip 2 days without trying. Spend the time educating yourself about food, looking at your forgotten passions, walking outdoors, doing something different and fun. Often people go into this trying to lose weight, but end up organizing their homes, ditching an abusive mate, or changing careers.

Good luck. I also use Allan Cott's book about Fasting for support. It's at Amazon, but they misspell Allan (it's really with one L). It explains ketosis and goes over many cases of extended fasts.
