Getting Into KETOSIS Before Water Fasting

Has anyone tried to eat low carb for the first few days of a water fast to get themselves into ketosis before stopping food? I'm assuming that ketosis is ketosis whether it's from water fasting, dry fasting, or atkins?!?!?
I have just had such a hard time with the first 48 hours of a fast--my cravings for carbs are SO intense, and I end up giving in after hour 24-36.
SO...I was thinking that if I could just eat Atkins--eggs/chicken/fish/beef, etc. for about 48 hours, once I got into ketosis, I could start the fast then, and hopefully have an easier time with carb cravings.
Essentially, eat like you do on Atkins induction. Also, on previous fasts, ketosis made me feel less hungry, so getting to that point would help as well.
That being said, I wonder how much different weight loss would be if you just had like 100-200 cals of a protein source (like chicken or fish) daily and stayed in ketosis, versus complete water fast...at least that would keep your metabolism going. Hmmm...
