29-day water fast
by: Anonymous

1. The goal of my fast was not weight loss so I have not monitored it. I'd say 10-15 lb. I also think fasting is terrible for weight loss, most people gain back more than they have lost.
2. I drank spring water exclusively, nothing else. You should eliminate any sources of nutrition if you fast, including teas.
3. It was hard to exercise. Some days I spent in bed entirely, however, some days I went rock climbing. So long as you kick yourself out of bed, you are fine for light exercise like walking.
4. You will CERTAINLY put some weight back.
5. I broke my fast on citrus juice. Grapefruit + lemon + 3 Oranges, diluted with water 1:3. I spent about 4 days on such juice, then were adding fruit and veg slowly.
6. I am currently on week 4 of recovery, still eating raw.
7. After about a week of braking the fast I was able to run and do more serious rock climbing.

NOTE that I am 24 years old, relatively healthy and my experience is unique to me :)

I completed a 16 day fast
by: Kate

I know you were only looking for 21+ day fasters but I thought my information/results might be of some help to you. I completed 16 days of water fasting,I lost 23 lbs. (I wanted to go 40 days but I was too weak and had to stop) March 4th of this year was my last fasting day of the 16 days. I have pretty much maintained my weight loss and this is 4.5 months and holding. Initially I was pretty strict about what I ate for at least 3 or 4 weeks. I now eat pretty much what I want to, but I have better eating habits now. When I find myself getting into old "junky" eating habits I don't feel as good so I get back to more fruit and vegetables. After a long fast you can feel in your mouth if something is not good for you. Somethings made me gag that I used to love because I could taste all the bad things in it. In order to maintain my weight loss I have fasted for 1.5 days per week faithfully. I will have dinner on Tues and then not eat anything only drink water until Breakfast time on Thursday. I will have cocktails one night a week too and have still kept off the weight. I am going to do another long term fast but it will have to wait a little while for things in my life to settle down. I also intend to fast for 2 days a week after my next long fast. I think these will be goals for 2011. I started all of this during Lent, it made it much easier to stick to it because it was a Lenten commitment, I am better at keeping those commitments then commitments for myself.
