Liiiiiiiiisa by: Anonymous
Wow, Lisa I just went back to read when you first started... like you, I'm looking to drop weight.
I know I can keep it off if I can drop it and switch back to being a veggie.
I've been at a comfortable size before, a few years ago, and now I'm only 21.
No reason for me to be 181 lbs.
I'm also looking to lose 60 lbs. I eat on comfort AND boredom.
So I'm training myself not to even think about it, to keep myself busy and find something to do.
Aand if I lose the weight, if my body can heal my knees (the product of marine corps boot camp)
I can get back to running again.
You can do it Liiiiiiiiisa!
WHOOT WHOOT! Keep it up!!!!
btw.. it IS ok for us to have tea and honey right? I feel so guilty for even having it, like I'm cheating myself.
I put two teaspoons of honey in a normal size cup of green tea (two tea packets), and can barely taste the honey...but I'm loathe to put anymore in.
I want to make this a routine so I'm not so sluggish. it IS ok right?

UGH by: Mande
So I did the salt water thing. Hard to do since it tasted horribly. My stomach was so upset for awhile and felt like I was about to vomit.
Nothing happened. Went to bed, woke up 9 hours later and it was small.. nothing major, nothing big. Ugh. Bell at least there was movement.
So I'm not feeling any real ill effects from water fasting. The hunger is gone, I have headaches now and then and a little bit more acne.
No weight loss, no crazy symptoms besides a few weird dreams at best.
Maaann. I feel cheated ;p

Bowel Movements by: Mike
Hey all,
If your looking to have some bowel movement, try the Salt Water Flush (Worked for me every time!!). You put two teaspoons of un-iodized salt water into 1 quart of water, and start chugging.
Chug it all back. It is not an easy thing to do, but give it 45 mins to an hour (the time always varies) and whammo! Major movements.
It will help flush out stuff that your normal bowel movement wouldn't. Some mucus and other fun ingredients.
Let me know how it goes (not in detail!!!)

Hey Guys! by: Mande
I'm on day 3! of water fasting. I drink a little tea now and then with a bit of honey when I need a boost of energy, but mostly just cold, filtered water (I hate warm water YUCK). Not so bad here, sometimes a little weak but I'm going alright!
I haven't set an amount of time because who knows, my body could kick me at day 17, or at day 40..who knows. So I'm listening to it.
You can do it guys! They say the first few days are the hardest.. and since I'm heading out of day 3.. I know I'm feeling GREAT.
My only problem is, I haven't had a bowel movement (TMI right?). I tried drinking a tea with licorice root, doesn't seem to work very well. It used to.
I used to drink Lacy Labeau diet tea, it's made to flush stuff out.
Bah.. anyone else having those problems?

Stay Strong by: Mike
Hey Lisa,
It is now day 8 or 9 for me! I'm pretty sure lol...
I feel great though! There are small humps here and there but the hunger pains are almost none existent.
I know I have lost some weight as I can feel my clothes fitting nicely, and my stomach feels a lot tighter. I have also been doing crunches and push ups... not too heavy or anything just enough to stimulate a little :).
Good job on the resisting! It's super hard I know... The most important is WHAT you eat after the fast. Even if you end it, and want to eat... eat LIGHT, and eat HEALTHY.
You will almost still feel like your fasting. And continue to pound back that water. You can lose weight drinking lots of water and still eating, so if your eating fruits and vegetables and good food, whilst downing all that water, you will lose.
The body will deal with the healthy light food fast and easy, allowing your body to continually work like it was on the fast.. just at a slower pace. So keep going! Have you noticed many changes? Let me know :).

Beginning Day 7 by: Anonymous
Okay,
I have to say yesterday the 4th was the hardest day yet... Big family get together....tons of food...and I do mean tons....some of it looked so good.
I thought about it but I am proud to say I did not take one bite of food...My stomach did growl at me for the first time really in 6 days (which is amazing). I can't believe how much I have been eating out of stress and habit with no real hunger pains.
However, I did have a couple of diet cokes which goes against the water fast however, in my defense it has no calorie and why not splurge on Independence Day huh?
I felt just awful too my back hurt, exhaustion set in but in the midst of it all I still saw the goal. I don't want to feel like this and I want to be healthy.
So, onward we go. Today has a little hurdle in it this morning a birthday brunch for my mother, it will be a little more intimate setting so not eating will be a little more challenging.
But here's to the superheroes ... right Mike? Mike I hope you had a good holiday! Thanks for all the encouragement! Is it day 10 for you today?
How are you feeling? What is your weight loss?
Talk to you soon, Lisa

Hang on by: Anonymous
Hey Lisa,
I know what you mean in terms of the days... Feels like it's going a lot slower than it SHOULD lol... but reality comes quick... we are just so used to a routine of eat here and eat there, that it seems so weird to just... not eat when everyone else is around you.
But in the big picture... what is 5, 10, 21, 30 days? I hope to do at least my age in days... but maybe more depending on how my body has cleaned up by then.
Just hang on... positive thoughts all the way... I took some b4 pictures a few weeks ago... and I hope to have some nice after pictures... perhaps inspiration for others... or myself again should I slip up somewhere...
I hope you are getting by... It can be hard at first because of all the toxins that may have built up... but put it this way... every day you go persevere with this, the cleaner you get.
Even if you were to break the fast, and try again, it would again be less taxing. That's why most people who can successfully fast have fasted before, and in smaller amounts.
It takes the load off the shoulders of trying to push a set amount of days... at least that's what I believe, as it seems to make pretty clear sense. So don't ever be too hard on yourself... this is as hard as it gets.
I like to think of fasting as a "superhero" thing...
We all have abilities... some of which we are unaware... but of those abilities that we are aware of... were either too scared to use or too skeptical.
So, with that said.. Use your power :).
Talk to you soon,
Mike

It's Only Day 4 by: Lisa
Mike,
See I am a little loopy ... it is really only day 4 not day 5 ... a little brain clog going on there... or hopeful thoughts... whatever..
I am only on day 4 ... tired, loopy and laughing at myself... but I did lose 8lbs this morning which was really motivating to say the least.
How much do you have to lose or are you just fasting for health? I have just been water only... so once again ... TTL

Day 5 by: Lisa
Mike,
I woke up feeling absolutely awful. I must be mighty toxic. My joints hurt and I feel like I can feel my body inside moving. Pretty wacky huh?
I am up and going. Moving slow but on my way. It's actually pretty motivating to know I can get rid of all this stuff in my body.
I really want this. I want to be out of this shell.I have the funky snake skin coming out today... it is really lovely. My skin looks flaky all over.
I really can't wait to get that "good feeling" once I get through this. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I really appreciate it.
I admire you for getting to day 7, they (whoever "they" are say by day 10 it is really great. So, being a good day 7 for you gives me hope. Did you feel bad on day 5 or 6? Was day 6 good for you?
I haven't felt too hungry... I have really realized that I eat out of routine and bad habits...pretty funny how quitting cold turkey can help see your weaknesses huh?
Well have a great day! Talk to you soon!

Droppin In by: Mike
Hey there,
The yucky feelings sort of come and go, depending on how toxic you are. I have still been doing quite a bit of physical stuff, so my body feels a little more weak than it's supposed to...
But I have been drinking a little bit of juice in between the water, just to keep my energy up. Water, juice and light exercise leave me feeling pretty damn good.
Almost day 7 soon which means my body really will start to kick into overdrive. Now that I'm this far, I just have to keep going. So far so good.
And you seem to be doing better, you have the right attitude. Keep pushing until you start to feel a sort of "calmness" about what you are doing.
Continually reflect on what you are doing and how you are going to do it in order to keep your motivation high. It will ALL be worth it!!
So keep me posted on how you are doing... I really find this is helping me because it allows the sharing of this experience... Hope so for you too. Anyways drop a line. Ciao!

Day 3 by: Anonymous
Today has been good but I have just felt tired and yucky all day! However, I do have to say that has kept me going because once I get through all this I know it will be better.
I have been busy almost all morning and now I am just kind of crashing... I would love to take a nap.
Mike, I think it is awesome you are standing strong... McDonald's and all... just think how much cleaner and leaner you are going to be at the end of the fast.
Are you fasting with just water or juice? If you are doing water are you drinking tea too? Keep up the good work... it should be getting easier by now right?
I hope so b/c Friday is the 4th and we are having a big party. So, I am hoping to be through the yawns and exhaustion, so I can be up for the party.
Have a great day! Talk to you soon!

Never Quit by: Mike
Hey Lisa,
Thanks for the encouragement. I think the reason I am able to go further on this fast is because it is not my first. I have done a few in the past, but nothing major.
One of my fasts was for 14 days when I got out of high school, and I had a few 3-5 days and 7-day fasts. I am only almost 21 so for me that has been a good few fasts to warm me up to complete an extended fast.
I'm hoping to go at least 21 days, and if I am still going strong then I will push it to 30 or even 40 if I can. The more fasts you do the better you understand exactly what your up against.
Doing one, failing, and giving up, is by far the for sure way to keep you from ever finishing a fast. We must realize that in order to beat this "enemy", we have to understand it.
Periodic fasts will tell your body what your up against. This way you can mentally prepare yourself for how your going to bypass temptation.
My roommates are eating McDonald's in front of me and ordering pizza and stuff and I simply just think about the progress I have made already (even though I'm on about day 6, I consider skipping a meal and drinking lots of water progress).
Once you start, you really just gotta keep going. Say no. Think of the future. When I go to sleep I think about everything being cleaned out and slim will give me. I may be only a few days ahead of you but I can help you through the rough parts if you need some advice.
Now, I'm no expert, but I feel I have this fast on lock down and it's mine. No one, nothing, is going to stop me. And that's the attitude I think people need to take.
This is what will separate you from everyone else. Sorry, I just blabbed on a lot... but I find I keep my motivation up when I read over this site, and talk to other ppl and read their experiences.
There really is no reason NOT to do this... so here we go :).

Thanks Guys by: Anonymous
Hey Mike you are so right... and believe it or not I started my fast the 28th and blew it. However, this time I did not give up. I just started the 29th.
I am on the tail end of day 2. I have stayed busy today but I just finished cooking dinner for the family. I am sure tomorrow will be a little more difficult so keep me in your thoughts... and thanks for your encouragement.
I admire you for sticking with it.. I can't wait til day 5. You are really doing great. Is this your first fast? How long are you planning to fast?

Hello Lisa,
I just found this site while doing research on water fasting. I actually began my water fast on the 27th of this month, so it would be perfect!

Motivation by: Mike
Hey Lisa,
All I can say is when you are tempted with anything during this fast, take a deep breath and picture yourself after this fast.
Think about all the things you will benefit from. Think about how good you will feel when you overcome human weakness.
I am on day 5 now of my fast and I stopped feeling hungry after day 3 (well... "hunger"... or as the doc put it, the body's craving for it's unruly fix).
Fasting is a battle, yet the only opponent is yourself. I liked to believe I knew myself well enough that I would make the right choices - me against me, yes vs. no, right vs. wrong.
The fact you have considered fasting and have taken it this far means to a large degree you are mentally ready to challenge yourself.
So... in this instance (fasting)... I feel I can say this for all of us... "If you're not first, you're last!" (And yes, I am using that line from a movie... haha... ah well).

Too Much Info by: Anonymous
Well, I love to be able to say that there was some magic reason I have become overweight. However, there is really no one or anything to blame, but myself.
I eat more calories than I expend. I am a stress eater. I eat for comfort. But as we all know, once the food is gone, I really just feel plain "Bad."
I have had 3 kids in 3 years... which of course hasn't made it any easier. Now, I can't really use that excuse anymore as my youngest is now 2.
I am past the "I just had a baby excuse." I have really just lost all my spirit with the my weight. I have become a bit depressed.
I am VERY sure if I could just get through the first days of my fast I would feel so MUCH better; like I have accomplished something.
I would like to lose 60lbs. That would include the 15lbs I was working on losing prior to my first pregnancy. I am 5'4 and I am 185lbs; boy does that make me sick to write.
I haven't told anyone my weight. However, I am at the point I have to change. I hate who I have become in this body that isn't mine. I am feeling suffocated in it.
I need to fast to rid all the toxins and get rid of all the emotional garbage that this weight represents. I have so much that I need to do for others and my weight is holding me back.
Well, I am sure that was too much information. Thanks for letting me vent. So, here's to a new life. Just one day at time.
Thank you!
Lisa

Congratulations!` by: Robert D Johnston - FTF Webmaster
Hi Lisa. Welcome to our fasting forum!
It sounds like you have made up your mind - that is usually the hardest part. Stick to the decision you have made.
Yes, you are right. It is not going to be easy. There are a lot of pitfalls that come up along the way, so make it a point to write to use frequently to let us know what you are going through.
But I know that what you are doing will, in the end, grant you much health and satisfaction - not to mention dramatic weight loss. What is your height and how much do you weigh?
How many pounds do you wish to lose and what is your idea weight? Let me know so I can gauge what you can expect to achieve.
Also, what do you believe is the primary reason why you are overweight? Do you, or have you had problems with binging?
Or do you simply base your diet on high-fat foods and junk food? I look forward to hearing from you.
Warm Regards,
Robert Dave Johnston Fitness Through Fasting Webmaster/Editor
