I am so glad you are reading this! Why? Because fasting can often be misunderstood. It can be seen as something terribly difficult; a masochistic tool to punish ourselves for being overweight. Or it can be construed as something to be done only by persons who are bulimic or suffer from other body image disorder.

In short, fasting can be often viewed as damaging and counter-productive. But nothing could be further from the truth. Fasting and cleansing can be a powerful source of life and resurrection – If you work it and are willing to pay the price.

Are you searching to improve your health?

By now you probably know who I am. My name is Robert Dave Johnston and I am the editor of Fitness through Fasting. My role in these ezines is to be a facilitator of new trends, tools and information to support your fasting and weight loss experience.

After years of research and seeking for ways to achieve optimal health, I have concluded that the root cause of “all my health problems” (mental, physical. emotional & spiritual) were - to a very large extent - a polluted body. Specifically, I suffered from a colon, bloodstream and digestive system overburdened with toxins caused by years of poor eating, cigarette smoking and inactivity. This realization - which led me to do a 40-day water fast and lose nearly 50 pounds -launched an ongoing journey that has resulted in this website.

While I have lost in excess of 70 pounds through both juice fasting and water fasting, I continue to implement these disciplines in my daily lifestyle. My wish is to guide you to the same freedom I have found from obesity and toxicity.

So … You May Ask - What is this so called "Secret"?

It actually is very simple. The secret for sustained wellbeing is based on an “Amazing Health” life formula comprised of fasting, ongoing detoxification, optimized nutrition, regular exercise and various holistic disciplines we will talk about later. That's it! As you can see, none of this is "revolutionary or new."

It is, however, a very powerful combination for optimized health and wellbeing. This “Amazing Health” life-formula, with patience and persistence, WILL liberate you from obesity and sickness and help you to reclaim power over your mind, body and spirit.

Is Detoxification for Me?

A very large portion of this formula is based on ridding your bowels and bloodstream of toxicity. I can tell you that detoxification is probably the single-most important component to long-term health. It helps the body eliminate toxins that affect your immune system and could potentially cause severe illness.

Toxicity is nearly always generated by a diet filled with junk food, sugar, salt, enriched flours, as well as pollutants in the air we breathe and water we drink.

In addition, the excessive consumption of drugs and alcohol coupled with stress, free radicals and hereditary tendencies - all can produce severe toxicity and illness in the long run. So, to be sure, detoxification is for everybody to some extent.

The bottom line is this: Your body is not designed to process all of these toxins at the same speed that they are ingested or generated. They accumulate. So, it is important to help your body expel toxicity on an ongoing basis. If not, sooner or later they can and will affect your immune system and overall body functions.

What are the Symptoms of a Toxic Body?

The symptoms brought on by toxicity can literally make existence a living hell. Maybe you are struggling with chronic fatigue, skin rashes, acne or eruptions, women’s problems, bad breath, flatulence, heartburn, acid reflux, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, insomnia, depression, low self-esteem, obesity, low energy, inability to concentrate, binging & compulsive overeating, frequent congestion, sinus problems, migraine headaches, general body in your body, low resistance to infections or – worse yetALL OF THE ABOVE as I did.

If so, I understand your plight. I often felt as if my entire body was shut-down, and many times I simply wanted to die to end the misery of existence. I am not saying that everybody who suffers from toxicity feels this way. But such as the case with me.

In short, it is not a pleasant or comfortable condition at all. You may relate to some extent. I walked around like a zombie and had no motivation to live, let alone make any changes. It was a trap that very nearly led to my death. Let us take a quick look at what toxicity does to the different major organs of the human body.

What Toxins Do To Your Body:

The Nervous System - you will feel irritable and depressed with feelings of low self-esteem. Some persons experience severe despair and suicidal thoughts.

The Heart – an overall feeling of weakness and dizziness/ weakness.

The Colon & Stomach - bloated, gas, bad breath and constipation or diarrhea.

Skin - rashes and blotches, pale and/or wrinkly skin.

Glands – You will feel fatigued and lethargic. Your sex drive takes a dive and you will look notably older than your actual age. The lymph nodes may become swollen, indicating your body is attempting to fight off an infection.

Starting To Detox Your Body

Now that we have talked a little about toxicity and some of the symptoms, let us now move on to the first recommendation I wish to make.

Part One of the “Amazing Health” Life Formula© is -> Make Water your most Powerful Ally

This may sound overly simplistic, but it is not. If you are serious about improving the quality of your health, then taking this step is honestly one of the most powerful changes you can make in your life. And you can do it right away!

There are many ways to achieve body detoxification. But success in any detox method is totally dependent on the quality of water that you drink or use. The purer and more alkaline the water, the more thorough and ongoing the detoxification will be.

Ok, I'm going to say it: Don't drink tap water if you can avoid it. A lot has been said about this in the media and magazines. I certainly, however, is not my intention to say that ALL tap water is bad.

I am not an alarmist. But drinking nothing but the best quality of water that I can has made dramatic changes in my health, energy and vitality.

After all, ninety-four percent of our blood is made up of water. Indeed, we should be looking to protect our health with filtration and purification technologies that ensure water is free from contaminants. If chlorine and other chemicals are present in the water you drink, then your body’s ability to detoxify will be lessened.

Most tap water contains traces of synthetic chemicals that have to be filtered by your liver and kidneys. While these toxins certainly are not poisonous on the short-term, they do become a burden to the body over time and definitely do not add to your life.

So What to do?

To put it simply, you want the purest water you can get. You want water that contains essential trace minerals and is in a form your body can readily utilize. In that regard, not all water is the same. Water is the primary solvent in the human body and, as such, regulates all of its functions.

Deciding what water filtration system is best for you is a very individual and personal process. It also depends on your budget! But with a very small investment it is possible to have safer drinking water that can server as the backbone of all of your water fasting, juice fasting and detoxification efforts.

If this is not the appropriate time for you to any type of purifier, then boil your water. Ten years ago, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) advised people with weakened immune systems to consider boiling their drinking water to kill any cryptosporidium.

This warning remains today. While most cities and municipalities have fairly good tap water, my resolve - and part of the life formula I follow today - is to take complete personal responsibility and drink nothing but the highest quality of water that I can.

Water filtration does not have to be expensive. You can even learn to build your own water filter for practically free. No matter what you decide to do, I STRONGLY urge you to make sure that you have access to the very best quality of water that you can. It will make ALL of the difference!

So, with a good water filtration system, my next recommendation is a simple one, and that is to start a Water Diet right away. Doing this can make a huge difference and help your body to immediately start the detox process.

The Water Diet

A water diet basically is the recommendation that you drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day. Scientists have found that doing so helps the body flush out toxins and can even assist in weight loss by curving appetite.

I have proven this to be true in my various extended water fasts. Drinking water also has helped me to avert relapse into nibbling at off hours, binging and compulsive overeating.

It is hard to distinguish between being thirsty and being hungry, so try drinking water and waiting 20 to 30 minutes to see if you're still hungry. In many cases you will not, but even if you still are - it will be lessened.

A Final Word About Water

Water is an important nutrient for: removal of waste products, carrying nutrients, and regulating body temperature. Water helps reduce fluid retention, and helps keep bowel functions normal.

Replacing higher calorie beverages with plain water or flavored water (without added sugar) can significantly help you to lose weight. Furthermore, most of these drinks contain caffeine.

The caffeine acts as a diuretic and sets you up for dehydration. By the time you feel thirsty, you already are dehydrated. It is a vicious cycle that does nothing for your health.

Steer clear of caffeine or minimize its use as much as you can. Believe me, detoxing from coffee is VERY uncomfortable. The headaches can be quite painful.

In short, drinking good quality water is Part One of this Amazing Health Life Formula that has literally saved my life. I encourage you to adopt it from now on. It will server as a solid foundation from where you will build upon the sustainable health that you deserve.
